The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Student Command has organised a march from Curries Fountain through the Durban city centre.

They say they will be demanding justice for Mlungisi Madonsela who died following a protest at the Steve Biko campus in 2019.

The Business Administration student was shot during a scuffle with private security guards.

DUT spokesperson Alan Khan says the Steve Biko, Ritson and ML Sultan campuses will be shut tomorrow to ensure the safety of students and staff.

"In the past, such planned protest gatherings have turned violent; therefore, the University wants to mitigate the risks attached to the protest action.

"All DUT staff currently working on these campuses are hereby requested to liaise with their line managers to work remotely on the day. Staff and student access to these three campuses will be prohibited tomorrow."

Khan says the campus protection teams will remain on-site to monitor the situation.

He says online registration will not be affected.

The campuses are expected to reopen on Monday.
