Three nabbed for murder of Durban officers

Three suspects linked to the murders of two metro police officers have been arrested in KwaMashu, north of Durban, this morning.

"They will be charged for - murder. We can say that members are still busy at the crime scene and busy processing the suspects and following all the new processes," Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe said. 

40-year-old Constable Nomasonto Mhlanga and 60-year-old Inspector Zephania Dladla were gunned down in Phoenix on Monday night, while guarding a ward councillor's home.  

Mhlongo says this morning, when police raided their hide-out in M-section there was a shootout.

"One of those suspects was shot during his arrest because he fired shots at the police who retaliated. He is in hospital under police guard as we speak. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol."  

Meanwhile a memorial service for the officers will be held at Durban's City Hall this morning. 

"The memorial service is planned for them at 11am. The date for the funeral will be set very shortly," the metro police's Parboo Sewpersadh said.
