Three men were killed and 12 people hurt when their bakkie overturned late yesterday afternoon.

While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be established, reports from the scene indicate the vehicle's tyre burst - causing the driver to lose control of the bakkie.

A number of emergency personnel arrived to assist the injured.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says an air ambulance was also flown in.

"Multiple patients were ejected from the vehicle and were thrown down an embankment. Twelve patients were found to have sustained moderate to minor injuries.

Herbst says one patient sustained critical injuries and was airlifted through to King Albert Luthuli Hospital for further care.

"Numerous other ambulance services were in attendance and transported the rest of the patients through to hospital," he said.
