Two men have died after being knocked down in separate accidents in Kloof and near Phoenix.

In the Kloof crash, a man thought to be in his forties was knocked over in a suspected hit-and-run while riding his bicycle along Wyebank Road this morning.

"He was knocked off his bicycle by an unknown vehicle. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a man lying on the side of the  road next to his bicycle. They assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene," ER24's Russel Meiring said.

Meiring says local authorities will be investigating the matter further.

In the second accident, a pedestrian was hit by a car on the M41 between Phoenix and the N2 highway.

Crisis Medical's Kyle van Reenen says the man was found in a critical condition.

"The assistance of the IPSS Black Eagle aero-medical helicopter was called for. Unfortunately on arrival of the aircraft on scene, the patient went into a state of cardiac arrest. A joint effort between all services on scene, saw 30 minutes of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation efforts which resulted in a pulse being brought back to the patient."

Van Reenen says he was transported rapidly by road to the Mahatma Ghandi Memorial Hospital because of the patient being found unstable for flying.

The man was declared dead upon arrival at hospital.
