Three arrested for copper cable theft in Newlands East

Over 680 kilograms of suspected stolen copper cables have been found at two scrap metal yards in Newlands East, north of Durban.
Police say members of the newly launched Economic Infrastructure Task Team and officials from Prasa, Transnet and Telkom on Monday raided the two scrap yards.
Two scales and 15 kilograms of aluminium cables and lids were also recovered.
Three suspects, aged between 23 and 51, were arrested.

The trio is being detained at the Newlands East Police Station.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to the possession of stolen property and tampering with infrastructure.
