KZN police nab 8 000 during anti-crime operations

Nearly 8 000 people were arrested across KwaZulu-Natal in June.
Police say the suspects were nabbed for various crimes during anti-crime operations.
More than a quarter of the suspects were arrested for contact crimes, which include murder, attempted murder, rape and assaults.
Spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says they also seized various items and objects.

"Police also recovered drugs such as heroin, mandrax powder, cocaine and dagga. During this period, 480 suspects were arrested for liquor related offences.
"Police seized 262 illegal firearms and 3 321 rounds of ammunition in operations during the same period. All firearms seized have been subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in any other crimes in the country."
