Third suspect in Avoca hijacking arrested

Police have arrested the third suspect wanted in connection with a hijacking in Avoca in Durban north that claimed the life of Durban father, Kelly Chetty yesterday evening.
Police worked through the night to find and arrest them. Officers first swooped on them near the KwaMashu Hostel early this morning.
A gun battle ensued and two suspects were shot dead.
SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says the arrested suspect is receiving treatment after sustaining an earlier gunshot wound.
"Police have managed to locate the third suspect who fled following the shooting this morning. The 31-year-old was arrested at the Poly Clinic in KwaMashu where he sought treatment for a gunshot wound he sustained during the shootout.
"He has been taken to a local hospital for further treatment. He remains under police guard until his next court appearance," Naicker said.

Naicker says acting Provincial Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi visited the scene of the KwaMashu shootout this morning.
"We commend the members of the eThekwini trio crimes task team and crime intelligence officers who worked throughout the night to track the perpetrators. We commend them for their dedication and commitment," he said.
