Tension, anxiety among Verulam residents as suspected bomb removed
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Tensions among Verulam residents are high - after a device believed to be a bomb was found at the Imam Hussain Mosque last night.
Community members from surrounding houses had to be evacuated from their homes for almost five hours as the Explosives Unit worked to secure the area.
The discovery comes just four days after a knife attack at the mosque in Ottawa's Old Main Road. One man was killed and two others hurt when three people stormed the building on Thursday.
Residents living nearby say they now fear for their safety. The community's Andisha Maharaj spoke to Newswatch at the scene last night.
Meanwhile at around midnight, authorities removed the device from the premises for further analysis.
The device has been described as a capsule or pipe with two wires connected to a cellphone.
