Temporary relief scheme for looted businesses gets green light
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Workers of businesses whose operations were affected by the looting and vandalism in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng will get assistance from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

The Labour and Employment Department says a temporary relief scheme for destroyed, affected and looted workplaces has been approved.
It says the relief will be for employees who've either lost their pay or it has been reduced.
The money will be paid directly into the affected workers' accounts.
The UIF's Makhosonke Buthelezi says they're finalising the system which they expect to go live soon.

He says they'll only able to help businesses that have already registered with the UIF.
"They will apply online and then supply documentary evidence. Few of the things that the evidence we will be look for is an affidavit from the police station which is supported by pictures of the looted business.
"Evidence or proof of an insurance claim if there is such and any other proof as required.
The department estimates more than 75 000 workers have been impacted by the violence in the two provinces.
