Teen accused of assaulting Lufuno Mavhunga to apply for bail on Thursday

The bail application of a 14-year-old girl arrested in connection with the assault of Lufuno Mavhunga has been postponed to Thursday.

The 14-year-old girl is expected to return to the Thohoyandou Children’s Court in Limpopo for a formal bail application.
The arrest came after the 14-year-old girl seen in a video assaulting Mavhunga on April 12.

The video went viral on social media and Mavhunga later died by suicide at her parents’ home.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the case did not go ahead today because the court wants a neutral balance between the state and the child.

"The previous magistrates know the facts of the preliminary inquiry. The case will be rolled over to 22 April 2021 in order to have a new presiding officer.”
The 14-year-old remains in custody.
