KZN schoolgirl gets a year of community service for bullying another learner

A Zululand schoolgirl has been sentenced to a year of community service for bullying a fellow pupil.
The 16-year-old was arrested after assaulting another learner at Mathole High School in Mahlabathini.
KZN NPA spokesperson, Natasha Kara says the girl will be supervised by a probation officer for the duration of her sentence.

She says the teenager will also undergo intensive therapy to manage the underlying issues that may have led to the behaviour.
"In handing down sentence, Magistrate Fatima Khawula set out some conditions: namely that the accused cannot leave the magisterial district without prior written consent from the probation officer, and she must submit a written apology to the victim.
Also, the probation officer must facilitate a mediation between the accused and the victim.
"The Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, Adv. Elaine Zungu welcomed the finalisation of this matter."
