eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says a technical team continues to be on the ground to monitor pump stations flagged as being behind the pollution at the city's beaches.

Kaunda has told a briefing that the group also meets regularly to analyse water quality reports.

"We are pleased that Kingsway and Warner Dawn Palm stations are now fully operational, and this has resulted in most beaches in the north and in the south being open for swimming."

The mayor also explained why Warner Beach is the only one out of the metro's 23 beaches that remains shut after last month's rains swept debris into the sea and affected shark gear.

"Warner Beach, we are just dealing with some technicalities and our plant there, palm station, then we'll open it once we're done."
