The teacher has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We view all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and will investigate all allegations rigorously. We would like to appeal to the complainants to avail themselves to provide any necessary evidence during the investigation," said Mshengu.

The department says anyone found to have committed any wrongdoing will face disciplinary action.

The department said in a statement that it will not tolerate sexual harassment or any other form of sexual abuse in its schools.

"There is nothing personal about this, we are just being professional. There is no witch-hunt. Any wrongdoing will be punished," said the MEC's spokesperson, Kwazi Mthethwa.
