Taxi transport system disrupted in PMB CBD strike
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Some commuters are stranded and traffic in parts of the CBD is affected by the taxi strike.
Taxi operators have been blocking major roads into the city since this morning. They are upset over traffic fines.
Some of the roads that have been affected are Church Street, Alexander Road and Peter Kerchoff Road.
Northern Suburbs Taxi Association spokesperson, Venesh Kistensamy says all operations have stopped.
"We have a massive taxi strike going on in the Pietermaritzburg area and we would like them to find alternative transport home in the afternoons. It's unforeseen that we had to encounter this without prior notification that there was a taxi strike that's going to happen today.
"We are just making an appeal to our commuters to please make alternative arrangements to get home in the afternoon. We ceased our operations for the safety of our taxis, commuters and our drivers," he says.
