Taxi driver charged with culpable homicide for Weenen drownings

The taxi driver who tried to cross a flooded bridge in Weenen resulting in some deaths has been charged with culpable homicide and drunken driving.
The fully laden taxi was swept off the low-lying bridge on Saturday.
Nine of the thirteen occupants - including the driver - managed to get to safety.
Two bodies were recovered this week, while two other people remain missing.
SAPS spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says search and rescue teams are still out looking for them.

She says the 40-year-old suspect was placed under arrest, he appeared before the Magistrate's court yesterday.
The matter has been remanded to the 9th of April and he is still in police custody.
"The police are still searching for the two bodies after four people had drowned."
