Taxi boss gunned down in Verulam

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the murder of a taxi owner who was shot in Verulam.

The 32-year-old was sitting in a vehicle with a friend on Jabu Ngcobo Road when they both came under fire on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the gunmen were in another vehicle.
The taxi owner's friend escaped with minor injuries.
"It is alleged that one suspect alighted from the vehicle and fired several shots at the victims using rifles. The 32-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

"The suspect reportedly fled into an unknown direction. The motive for the killing is unknown. However, taxi-related violence could not be ruled out."
