Tafta says society should be inclusive of elderly

The Association For The Aged is taking a campaign to Durban's communities to shed light on elder abuse.

TAFTA says it's important that people come together to protect senior citizens.
The group's Femada Shamam's been speaking ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day today.
"Once there are older people who are seen as contributing members of society, you start addressing these structural issues about why they are lonely and isolated. It's about having an understanding that they are contributing members of society. They have basically contributed to the society we live in," she said.
According to the World Health Organisation, one in six people - who are 60 and older - have experienced some form of abuse in the past year.
