Elderly stand up against abuse in Durban march

Hundreds of senior citizens have today taken part in the Durban march - on the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

According to the World Health Organisation - one in six people who are 60 years and older -  experienced some form of abuse in their communities during the past year. 

It says apart from possible serious physical injuries - elder abuse can also lead to long-term psychological consequences.

These elders say it was important for them to come out to the march today. 

They've also praised the Durban-based TAFTA for the work they do in caring for and supporting senior citizens.
