Suspected robber killed during shootout with cops at KZN student res

KwaZulu-Natal police say they will keep a close watch on the situation at a private student accommodation that mainly houses University of Zululand students.
A shootout left a man dead at the property known as the The Mall in KwaDlangezwa in northern KZN on Tuesday.
Police say they were told that students were being robbed by two armed men.

SAPS spokesperson Jay Naicker says a shootout broke and one suspect was killed.
"When the police arrived on the scene they could hear the students screaming for help inside the house. As the suspects attempted to flee they were confronted by police officers from the Mtunzini police station."
"There was an exchange of gun fire and one suspect was fatally wounded during the shootout. The deceased was found in possession of a firearm with five rounds of ammunition, two cell phones, a laptop and a charger," he said.
Naicker says the second suspect escaped during the shooting.
