Suspected hijacker found dead on N3

A man - believed to be in his 20s - has died following what's believed to be an attempted hijacking on the N3 just before the Liberty Mall turnoff in Pietermaritzburg.

Details are sketchy but according to ER24's Russel Meiring, his body was found lying underneath a highway barrier.
It's believed this was one of the suspected hijackers.

"Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound - he showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead. A second man believed to have been the victim was assessed and found to have escaped with serious injuries. Local authorities were on the scene searching for an apparent second suspect," he said.
An investigation will be launched into this matter.
