Suspect in Umlazi mass shooting 'wanted for separate murder'

As the sole survivor of a deadly shooting in Umlazi recovers in hospital, authorities are appealing to members of the community to please come forward with any information they may have about the attack.

Police say four gunmen stormed a home in Q-section just before midnight on Friday and killed four people.
They then gunned down two others at an informal settlement nearby.
One person was wounded.
Investigators believe the suspected ringleader demanded the victims hand over his identity document.

Community Safety MEC Sipho Hlomuka has urged police to intensify their search for the gunmen.
Spokesperson Thando Biyela says one of them is a wanted suspect in a separate murder case.
"Hlomuka calls for increased police deployment to beef up the 72-hour manhunt for suspects who shot and killed six people in Umlazi on Friday evening. Hlomuka has tasked police to work with speed and efficiency to ensure the apprehension of these wanted criminals.
"MEC Hlomuka says government and law enforcement is working tirelessly to remove the large number of illegal firearms and ammunition that are used by criminals to commit crime, especially murder. A total of 332 were recovered in various operation around the province last month."
