Suspect shot, injured in north Durban attempted hijacking
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A suspected hijacker has been rushed to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds after allegedly trying to hijack an armed response officer in Effingham, north of Durban.
Crisis Medical's Kyle Van Reenen says the reaction officer was seated in his car on Effingham Road earlier today when the man approached his vehicle, armed with a broken bottle.
"The reaction officer opened fire on the suspect, striking him several times. The patient was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken through to hospital. He remains in a serious condition," said Van Reenen.
"The reaction officer did not sustain any injuries in the incident. The scene was secured and handed over to SAPS."
