Thandazile Phoswa was gunned down at her home, allegedly by her boyfriend, on Monday morning. Police say the man was released because of a lack of evidence.
Earlier last month, Richmond's municipal manager Sibusiso Sithole was gunned down near a school in the Midlands.

The police's Thulani Zwane says at this stage, there's no evidence to suggest the murders are linked.
"The suspect detained has been released by police after we noticed that there's not enough evidence. That doesn't mean the case has been finalised and closed. The matter is still under investigation," he said.
Meanwhile, Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube has praised Phoswa for the work she did, saying her death was a blow to the local political sphere.
