Suspect fatally wounded in shootout with Phoenix police

Two suspects - who were involved in a deadly shootout with police in Phoenix - are due to line up in the Verulam Magistrate's Court today.
The SAPS says Phoenix officers were conducting patrols on Monday when they spotted a vehicle parked outside a house on Wetfern Road. Both the back doors were open.
Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says they tried to stop a man, who was carrying something out of the yard. But he fled in the vehicle along with another person and police gave chase.

"The suspects' vehicle crashed into an embankment and they abandoned their vehicle in fled while firing shots at police.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was fatally wounded and a 25-year-old suspect was placed under arrest and the other three fled the scene. Two illegal firearms and ammunition were found on the suspects.
Another suspect was arrested.
