Surprise as estranged husband confesses to Delana Rawlins murder

The family and friends of slain gospel singer
Delana Rawlins say they were surprised by her estranged husband's guilty plea
in court.

Ian Rawlins admitted in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday that he shot his wife on the eve of Mothers' Day in Ashburton last year.
It was after an argument broke out between the two, who were in the process of getting a divorce.
Rawlins handed himself over to police.
Elton Adkins, who is a close family friend, says they weren't expecting a confession.
"We expected a 10-day trial but I think he realises that the state case against him is too strong. We are quite elated that it has come to this."
He says Rawlins made some shocking admissions in court.
"He pleaded guilty to the fact that the relationship was abusive, he would abuse his wife but he did not plead guilty to premeditated murder."

Sentencing arguments are due to take place on Wednesday.
Adkins says they want a lengthy prison sentence.
"We all hoping that he'll get 25 years. I think that sentence will befit the crime."
