The KZN Network on Violence Against Women has welcomed a court decision to keep a Pietermaritzburg man accused of killing his wife behind bars.

Ian Rawlins was denied bail in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
He's accused of the murder of his estranged wife Delana Rawlins, who was shot dead in Ashburton last month.
Police say the shooting occurred after an argument broke out between the two, who were in the process of getting a divorce.

The Network's Cookie Edwards says cases of femicide in the country are on the rise.
"He needs a stiff sentence. Femicide has seen a high increase in the country.
"It's like 'problems can't be resolved, so I rather take your life, If I can't have your no one is going to have you' kind of a thing or 'You not going to leave me so I rather take your life'."
