Surfside resident describes how she fled home on night of KZN storm
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A resident from Umdloti Surfside has described the terror she felt when she had to evacuate her home during the storm.

Lee Smith joined a group of locals who held a community picket this morning.
A number of properties in the north coast town partially collapsed or were left badly damaged when the heavy storm hit over the weekend.
Smith believes a construction company working on a new development in their area, dug up and removed a large amount of sand which contributed to massive landslides. She's been living in the area for two decades.

" The first block I actually witnessed (collapsing) at 1am. I had to evacuate that night and drive through to Umhlanga, but the second block was on Saturday.

“I came back to my house, and I saw the red sand coming over the driveway again and it was definitely compromising our building. So, I just grabbed a bag, which is probably a metre by half a metre. I shoved three pairs of pants and three shirts, and I left.”
