A group of university students are hoping to raise about a million rand for their peers who are struggling with historical debt.

Thand'Olwethu Dlanga is the chairperson of Walk4Access and a postgraduate student at the University of Pretoria.
He says their goal is to get 50 000 people to donate R21 each.
"Fundamentally the important issue of historical debts, registration fees, hunger and accommodation crisis. In 2019, when we started, we started by walking from Cape Town to Pretoria over 21 days. We raised about R100 000 even though our target was R1 million."

From Tuesday, they started walking from Durban to Pretoria.
Dlanga says they plan to walk the 650 km in 10 days.
"We'll make sure that it's like a relay. From one city to the next in one day."
Namatai Ruswa, who's studying for his masters at U.P, says this initiative helped him get registered.
"I actually registered on the very last day of registration and literally, there was nowhere else to go. I tried everywhere. I tried even the year before. Walk4Access came through for me with the registration fee and I managed to get in."
