He apparently used a slingshot to hurl stones at police - among other things.
A march requesting for Khanyile's release took place on Friday in Durban.
Local Fees Must Fall student leader, Gazuzu Nduli, says Khanyile's case will be heard in the highest court in the land, soon.
"We submitted our memorandum to the NPA that they must not oppose bail for Bonginkosi, as his matter is going to be heard in the Constitutional Court on the 1st of March," he said.

"This campaign - it needs the resources for us to be able to organize effectively and efficiently. We ourselves are students, and we often struggle financially," he said.
