It's understood that DSW workers are protesting on the N2 in Isipingo near the old airport and the R102.

On Tuesday, workers took to the streets in the Durban CBD.

In a video on social media, they are seen scattering dirt near the City Hall, blocking both ends using a municipal truck.

The eThekwini Municipality says some services have been affected by the unauthorised strike.

It says it's aware of a meeting requested by the South African Municipal Workers’ Union, which was granted.

Samwu's Xolani Dube says there are outstanding issues regarding wages, bonuses, and daily performance.

He says that compared to other metros, eThekwini Municipality workers are poorly paid.

"We are appealing. We have been engaging with the employer, which is eThekwini, to please come on board and try to resolve this matter. All workers want is to be the same as other metros. I think that is a very reasonable demand from workers. The decision was taken around 2010, so for more than 10 years, workers of eThekwini have been paid less and have been prejudiced as compared to other metros."
