Calls for stricter security at KZN schools after educator gunned down in classroom
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The National Teachers Union (Natu) has called for swift police action following the killing of a teacher in Ntuzuma, north of Durban.

Two suspects are said to have stormed the 46-year-old's classroom at Phikiswayo Primary School on Monday.
Natu's Doctor Ngema says they've been asking the Education Department to beef up security at some schools for a long time.
"How many teachers must die before the Department of Education realises the necessity to put safety and security measures at our schools? I believe trained security personnel would have registered and even searched the gunmen before letting them into the school.

“We are heartbroken."
The DA's Sakhile Ngidi says another concern is the trauma children are exposed to after such incidents.
“We find this very concerning, especially since a study done in late 2023 by StatsSA revealed that KZN has the highest percentage of children who've experienced violence in schools."
