The chairperson of the SA
AIDS conference says burning issues like HIV stigma and discrimination are
hampering efforts to end the epidemic.
"There's no place for stigma and discrimination in our modern society, we therefore condemn the passing of the Ugandan LGBTQI+ law in the strongest terms. It is inhumane and makes a mockery of the advances in the fight against HIV."
Gloria Maimela addressed delegates at the conference, which got underway in Durban this week.
Hundreds of participants from across the globe have gathered to discuss ways of stopping the spread of HIV.

. " We have witnessed first time in this country that discrimination and addressing stigma faced by vulnerable and at-risk populations led to greater access to HIV treatment to more than 5.7 million people," said the head of the United Nations in South Africa Nelson Muffuh.
"The United Nations, therefore, welcomed the South African government's decision to review its laws relating to sex work among consenting adults."
