Four KZN districts meet HIV/AIDS target
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KwaZulu-Natal Health officials say four districts in the province have met their 90-90-90 target to end HIV/AIDS.
MEC Nomagugu Simelane says that 90% of people in these districts know their HIV status, are receiving antiretroviral therapy and have achieved and maintained viral suppression.
"Umzinyathi, Umkhanyakude, Ugu and Harry Gwala have all met these targets. Unfortunately, had it not been for Covid-19, we are sure that we would have written 95-95-95 by now.

"However, it does not help us to speak about Covid anymore. We are working to make sure that we reach the targets that we have to reach."
The MEC has welcomed hundreds of delegates attending the 11th South African AIDS Conference in Durban this week.

Issues such as decriminalising sex work and ending discrimination against people living with albinism will be brought to the fore.
"We are encouraged by the fact that 96% of the people in KwaZulu-Natal know their status, while 83% are on ART and 93% are virally suppressed."
