StatsSA shows KZN with highest number of break-ins in SA

The Institute for Security Studies says the number of households that aren't reporting house break-ins to police, is concerning.
A survey released by Stats SA this week found that 1.2 million incidents were recorded in 2019 and 2020.
KwaZulu Natal had the highest number of house break-ins in the country.

"What is concerning is just only 52% of households actually reported to the police. It's slightly up from previous years where it was actually under a half."
The Institute's Lizette Lancaster says it appears one of the reasons is that people have no hope of recovering what was stolen.
"Unless we look at actual arrest figures, compared to the number of crimes, we do see quite a discrepancy. We also see that many of these cases do not end up in court or in convictions."
