State to oppose any bail application by AKA murder accused
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The five men accused of the murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello Motsoane told the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday that they intend to apply for bail.
Forbes and his former manager were killed outside the Wish Restaurant on Durban’s Florida Road just over a year ago.
This week, police confirmed seven arrests for what they have called an assassination plot on Forbes.
Appearing in court for the first time, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Eddie Myeza, Lindani Ndimande and Mziwethemba Gwabeni covered their faces with masks and hoodies as they entered the dock.
Senior state Advocate Mzwandile Gcaba told the court that all five suspects face ten charges, which include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder.
The state asked for an adjournment in the matter to allow for further investigations.

Detectives will now follow up on information they received after the arrests, analyse data and continue working on the extradition matter of the remaining two suspects arrested in eSwatini.
The state said that at this stage, they cannot confirm how long the process will take.
The five, who had already acquired private legal representation, were asked to remove their masks and hoodies as they were in a public court.
The accused's attorneys argued that the suspects are yet to be convicted and could face victimisation from the public.
The matter was postponed to next week Wednesday.
The state intends to oppose bail.
