Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo had to meet with counsel in his chambers after Zuma's legal team raised objections about evidence leader - Advocate Paul Pretorius's line of questioning.

Pretorius had been asking Zuma about former head of government communications - Themba Maseko's testimony that Zuma had instructed former minister in the presidency Collins Chabane to sack Maseko as he'd refused to assist the Guptas with government business.

Zuma denied giving such an order.

Zuma's legal representative - Thabani Masuku then rose and argued that his client was being cross-examined.

In response - Advocate Pretorius said they were not seeking to prove a pleaded case - but were merely giving Zuma an opportunity to deal with Maseko's evidence and its implications.

After the tea break adjournment, Justice Zondo said he had had a constructive meeting with counsel on the matter and that a ruling wouldn't be necessary.

He says Zuma's team said they didn't want to be seen as being obstructive.

"It's been agreed that I will try and be more ready to intervene in case I think there is unfairness in any question. Mr. Pretorius from his side will try and find a way to put questions in a manner that will take account of any concerns that me may think will create unfairness," Zondo said.
