State Capture Inquiry: Gordhan recalls axing as Finance Minister

Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Ghordan says he was never formally told about his dismissal as Minister of Finance. Gordhan has been testifying at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.

He, along with several other Cabinet members, were removed from their posts during a reshuffle by then President Jacob Zuma in 2016. 

"A number of us, including Minister Hanekom and Minister Ramatlhodi, learnt from the TV screen that we were in fact dismissed," Gordhan said.

Gordhan has also told the commission why he thinks none of those implicated in fraud and corruption are being made to face the music.

"Why is it that no real big figure finds themselves in orange uniforms yet? The lesson that one can draw from my tax experience is that current leadership structures seem helpless to arrest these practices either because they lack the means or the will - or are themselves held hostage," Gordhan said.
