Sihle Zikalala told delegates at UKZN's Howard College campus in Durban last night that irrespective of who is behind it, state capture does not serve the interests of the ANC.

Zikalala had been taking part in a public lecture on leadership and transformation under the theme: Unpacking state capture, white monopoly capital, radical economic transformation and the emergence of civil society protests.

"Whether you talk of the Oppenheimers or you talk of the Guptas, they don't represent what the ANC stands for. No member of the ANC should ever defend both because they are not in the interest of the ANC," he said.

Meanwhile, the Active Citizens Movement believes white monopoly capital should not be targeted when there are discussions around radical economic transformation.

The movement's Rajeshwar Maharaj believes transformation begins in the home with the values people hold in their domestic lives.

"What about the black capitalists that have also [associated] themselves with our leaders - so we have people that function within this area - that will form part of the corrupt society that we're talking about," he said.
