South Africa's Covid deaths hit 56 000 mark

New daily coronavirus infections have breached the four thousand mark for the first time in weeks.
The Health Ministry says 102 more people have died in the country after they were diagnosed with the virus.
A total of 4 623 new infections have been confirmed in the last 24-hour cycle.
The latest surge takes the number of cases identified to more than 1 645 000.

Active cases in KwaZulu-Natal are hovering above the 4 000 mark, while the province's death toll has climbed to 10 497.
As far as the national picture goes, there've been 56 011 pandemic fatalities.
Our recovery rate's dropped to 94 percent.
But on a positive note, some 282 000 people have received the first dose of the Pfizer jab, under the second phase of the country's vaccination rollout.
