SOPA: Drop in new TB, HIV cases in KZN
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The KwaZulu-Natal government believes it's winning the fight against HIV and TB in the province.
Delivering the State Of the Province Address on behalf of the premier yesterday, Economic Development MEC, Sihle Zikalala said that the provincial government's 90-90-90 strategy over the past five years has delivered desirable results.
"The new HIV infection rate is reduced from 79 000 to 61 000, mother to child HIV transmission decreased from 1,6% to 0,71%. While new TB case notification rate is reduced from 4,7 to 3,2%," he said.
Meanwhile Premier Willies Mchunu, who fainted on stage, returned to the Royal Show Grounds a short while later after doctors examined him at a Pietermaritzburg hospital saying they found nothing wrong him.
He told the media that he felt much better and that it was nothing to worry about.
