Patricia O’Connor was among three pensioners killed at two neighbouring frail care facilities in the provincial capital last month.

Their 22-year-old-alleged killer appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court today.

The court heard that Kershwin Goldstone has confessed to the murders and intends pleading guilty.

Speaking outside court, Tim O'Connor said his mother and the other victims were totally defenceless.

"They offered no physical threat or resistance to a young person who could have gained the material goods he sought - withoutinflicting the crimes that he did," O'Connor said.

He says he hopes justice will be served.

"What he did is inexcusable, and unconscionable. One just hopes that he is served reasonable justice in the context of what currently prevails," he said.
