Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Department of Social Development has increased the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant grant threshold from R350 to R624.

When applying for the grant, an applicant can't have more than that amount of money in their bank account.
The new regulation was gazetted last Tuesday.

Sandy Godlwana, who's with SASSA in KZN, says that if an applicant has more than R624 in their account, they will not qualify for the R350 grant.
"Another significant amendment to the regulations is that the bank verification will no longer be the main criteria and there will be no need for the beneficiaries to answer questions every three months to show that they qualify."
