The Pietermaritzburg High Court has handed five
life sentences to a man who murdered a Sobantu woman, her daughter and
grandchild.
Twenty-nine-year-old Njabulo Ndlovu also pleaded guilty to the rape of the eight-year-old girl.
He was sentenced on Thursday morning.
Zanele Ndlela (65) was stabbed and strangled at her home in June.
The bodies of her 46-year-old daughter, Simangele and granddaughter, Zenande were also recovered.
In his previous court appearance, Ndlovu told the court that after spending the night having drinks at the victims' home, the elderly woman asked him to leave and he refused.

He says the grandmother came into the room that he was in with Simangele, brandishing a knife.
Ndlovu says a scuffle ensued and he stabbed and strangled the elderly woman to death.
He told the court that he then strangled Simangele and killed her before raping the child and also strangling her.
