Life behind bars for Northdale rapist
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A Northdale man has been handed a life sentence for the rape of his
stepdaughter.
Prosecutors say the attacks on the 13-year-old took place over a period of nine months from September 2016, when her mother was not at home.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says the 36-year-old stepfather was sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court.
"The man was in a position of trust and was supposed to protect the child. He's married to the child's mother and would rape her whenever the mother went to work. The child eventually confided in her cousin and the man was finally arrested.

“The child was taken to the Thuthuzela Care Centre in Edendale where she received the necessary services and psycho-social support to deal with her trauma.
“The NPA welcomes the court outcome and believes that the sentence fits the crime.”
