KwaZulu-Natal Health says it's shocked and horrified by the murder of a Pietermaritzburg nurse - at the weekend.

46-year-old Mdu Ngubane, who worked at Edendale Hospital's labour ward, was shot by unknown suspects in Caluza, after he had dropped off a passenger.
He ran a lift club at night, transporting workers from Liberty Mall to their homes.

A 20-year-old woman, who'd been getting a lift, was also shot and wounded.
"The MEC believes that we have lost a person who has not only committed to helping himself but also developing other people. It is extremely unfortunate that he lost his life under such tragic circumstances - and a huge loss to the department and community, " the department's Noluthando Nkosi said.
Cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated.
