Republic Shezi was attacked while he was dropping off a colleague at a Tongaat informal settlement.

The 42-year-old had been an employee of Omega Security for four years.

"He seemed to be a hands on person - very understanding and open to ideas. He was a well-seasoned security officer who understands the community and handles his clients in the sense that if protecting your client, you are protecting your community," manager Afzal Mahomed said.

Mahomed has told Newswatch about the day of the attack.

"The staff member that was in the vehicle at that time heard two gunshots and she tried contacting the area supervisor. They came out immediately, tracked the vehicle down and found the location. He was found lying in a pool of blood," he said.
