The family of slain ANC ward councillor, Zodwa Sibiya has welcomed the deployment of additional police to the Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi.
Police and provincial government officials have decided to beef-up security at the troubled Glebelands and KwaMashu hostels.
Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu and Provincial Police Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni said in Durban yesterday that the move is part of plans to strengthen security ahead of local government elections.

Sibiya's aunt, Nonhlanhla says the family has been praying for an intervention to prevent more blood shed.
''The pain of loss never passes, we still think we going to see her. It's hard, especially when we see her belongings, some of which we still need to fetch from the hostel. It remains an open wound. We've lost Zodwa but we're glad if lives will be saved now,'' she said.
