Six illegal miners found dead near N1 Maraisburg
Gauteng police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of six people found in a veld near Maraisburg on the West Rand.
The men’s bodies were found scattered along the N1 highway in New Canada near a mine dump on Wednesday morning.
They all had gunshot wounds.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says the bodies are suspected to be that of illegal miners.
Muridili says they are investigating six counts of murder and no arrests have been made.
She says the citizenship of the victims could not be confirmed at this stage.
The motive of the shooting is unknown.
