Significant reduction in North Coast water use
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
North Coast water service provider Sembcorp Siza Water says while millions have been spent on drought intervention programmes the fastest way to prolong the water available in storage is by consumer reduction.

Hazelmere Dam is currently sitting at 26% around 120 days' worth of water.
Briefing the media in Ballito yesterday managing director Shyam Misra says figures from a consumption database show consumers have adhered to calls for water to be used sparingly.

He says before the drought 14-million litres of water was used compared to about eight million litres now.
''Since September last year to date, we've spent approximately R15-million on augmentation, trucks and also building our recycling plant.
''You can do various augmentation schemes but if the consumer buy-in is not there, then you're not going to find the dam storage or any significant reduction in the short space of time,'' he said.
