He appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court briefly yesterday.

The accused claimed that he had been tortured by police at the Durban North SAPS holding cells at a previous court appearance.

The 29-year-old man is facing 16 charges - including murder, kidnapping, rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He was arrested at his home in Assagay, outside Hillcrest last month.

Lee went missing from outside an alleged brothel in Margaret Maytom Avenue in Durban North in early January.

A massive city-wide search was launched for the 20-year-old, with many people turning to social media to call for her safe return.

Her badly burnt body was found on a farm in New Hanover in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands two days after her disappearance.

The accused, who is no longer being named because of the rape charge he is now facing, is due back in court for a bail hearing on 7 and 8 March, 2018.

An online petition calling for the accused to be denied bail has already been signed more than 3,400 times.
